Supermoon and Cupcakes

I hope everyone had a wonderful Cinco de Mayo! We got our Mexican food fix a day early, and Victoria enjoyed her flan on the 4^th.  For Cinco de Mayo we hit up a local cupcakery called Sugar Queen in hopes they may be serving something special (and sweet and spicy) for Cinco de Mayo. I am not big on sweets personally and every time I eat something sweet I have to eat something not sweet after it – I call it my “sweet kill.”  So if I know I am ordering dessert at a restaurant, I save off some bread or other savory item to kill that sweet taste. However, I do love a great cake or cupcake, and I love to promote local businesses that serve delicious treats! I look forward to sharing a couple others soon too.

I digress. At Sugar Queen on Saturday, to our delight we discovered their new “pancake and eggs” cupcake. It was a rich maple flavored cake with candied bacon inside, topped with maple icing, a piece of candied bacon and a gummy egg. It really tasted like a cupcake form of a sweet maple pancake with bacon. I highly recommend it! Sugar Queen said they will be offering them on Saturdays. When we got home of course we had to have a cupcake photoshoot. 🙂  Victoria highly recommends this flavor of cupcake as well. When the pancake and eggs cupcake was gone, we tried to give her some of a different flavor, but she scrunched up her face and exclaimed “other cake…other CUPcake!”

We didn’t get any new photos of VIP on Cinco de Mayo this year, so we will share this one from last year for those that haven’t seen it. It still makes me smile. She looks so different now, though. It is amazing how much little ones change in just a year (she still LOVES maracas, though).

Victoria is fascinated with the moon. We ended our evening looking up at the supermoon. It was so big and bright and beautiful. We were all in awe.

Well, the serger is calling to me. I best get back to cutting and sewing. I hope everyone is having a great weekend, and we wish you a wonderful week!

Shark Bride

What better to commemorate our daughter turning 22 months old today than a blog entry including sharks, brides, and a Cadbury bunny tryout!?

Our little one’s name is Victoria Ireland and we often call her V.I.P. (as those are her initials), and she is indeed our little V.I.P.  Being the silly family that we are, we started a tradition last year of having her do a Cadbury bunny tryout.  Here is her 8 second video from this year:

It is amazing how much she has changed since last year:    

She loves animals and makes sounds for every animal we could think of a sound for…and for the animals that don’t have sounds (like a shark), we often substitute a song.  Hence, the other day we were at dinner with my grandparents and brother and sister and my brother said, “Is Victoria singing the Jaws theme song!?”  I had to reply, “yes.” Funny things like this may make people wonder how we spend our days with her… Well, her favorite things to play with right now are these finger puppets.

Her most revered puppet, you guessed it, the shark! V.I.P.’s preferred game is for us to put the shark on our finger, sing the Jaws theme song, and try to catch her. When we eventually get to her, we are supposed to say, “shark attack!”  She then proceeds to hunch down with the shark on her finger and sneak up to you for a “shark attack” and she laughs and laughs.  Her second favorite puppet is the bride whose song is “Here Comes the Bride.”  So needless-to-say, I prefer chasing her around with the shark. Ha ha! We do of course have songs for most of the other puppets too.

Star Power!

Randomness shall continue on my blog. Today I aim to tackle a subject all parents have to inevitably go through, and I’m including a free template download. The subject … potty training.

Our little one is just now 21 months old, so I didn’t think that she could be motivated by something like a sticker yet, but I was terribly wrong. She LOVES stickers and REALLY wants to earn them. We started off just giving her a sticker if she successfully went in her potty. However, it quickly became clear this was not the best plan because she would go sit on her potty several times a day and try really hard to go, and it just seemed really cruel to not give her any stickers for her efforts. Hence, this chart was born. (Click below to download the PDF template).

You can use whatever stickers you like and put as many as you want per row. I made a big star at the end of the line, so if you want, you can do something special if they fill up the row and make it to the big star. What we do is give our little one a sticker on her hand if she goes potty in the toilet in addition to a sticker on her chart. If she does any of the other tasks, she gets a sticker only on the chart. This way, if she tries she can still earn a sticker, and we can reward her for trying, but she won’t get the coveted sticker on her hand unless she actually successfully goes potty on her toilet. It has been working like a charm. I hope you find it helpful too. If anyone has any training tips, feel free to post a comment here.

Lucky Green Dip

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! In addition to fashion, we love to celebrate every holiday with food, of course! Our whole household is wearing our green clothes, and we stopped by Sprinkles and got our traditional Green Velvet cupcake and Baileys Irish Cream cupcake. Yummy!

Growing up, we used to go down to the lake to visit my grandparents on all major holidays. It was always such a wonderful time. We would wake up to the smell of my Grandma Peggy frying bacon and my Grandpa Joe making pancakes from scratch. We loved to sit there on the tall bar stools and watch them cook away. As Grandpa Joe cracked the eggs with brown shells into the batter, he would always joke and tell us they were “rooster eggs.” Great times!  One of many culinary highlights of our times down at the lake was “Green Dip!” My aunt would typically bring it, and we would scarf it down the moment she walked in the door.  We hope you love it too!

Lucky Green Dip aka Parsley Perfection

• 1 Egg
• 1 Teaspoon of Salt
• 1 Teaspoon of sugar
• 2 green onions
• Tabasco to taste (typically 10 shakes or so)
• 2 Tablespoons of vinegar
• 2 cloves of garlic (crushed). (We typically use the minced garlic in the jar and use the conversion on the jar).
• 1 bunch of parsley
• A dash of pepper (we typically use ½ teaspoon)
  Mix all of the above ingredients in a blender.
• Then add in ¾ cups of pure vegetable oil into the blender and use the puree/mix setting until it is well blended.
  Taste after it is all blended and add any additional Tabasco/pepper to taste.
  Chill in refrigerator for a few hours until thick.
  Enjoy with chips and/or veggies!

We are excited to be part of a charity auction benefiting Ashley of Lil Blue Boo. I can’t say enough good things about Ashley – she’s inspiring and her blogs and clothing are amazing. Recently, I began a love affair.  I lie in bed at night and look over to the left, and I can’t help but smile.

Ah yes, a love affair with fabric! I think it is safe to say that I am officially a fabricaholic. Just looking at it sitting there is so inspiring.

It is funny where we end up finding inspiration.

I’m such a lucky girl with so much love in all areas of my life. I hope all of my readers’ lives are filled with so much love too on this Valentine’s Day!
